Aired 10/23/12
California Governor Jerry Brown said he thinks Congressman Bob Filner can handle the job of mayor.
Congressman Bob Filner picked up the endorsement of California Governor Jerry Brown today. The two Democrats appeared at a news conference in Barrio Logan in support of Proposition 30, Brown’s tax initiative aimed at increasing school funding.

Brown said he believes Filner can do the job of mayor.
"Bob Filner is kind of an independent guy. In fact he’s disagreed with me a few times. And that should be very important to the people of San Diego," Brown said. "He’s been around. He knows what’s going on. You gotta know local, and you gotta know Congress and you gotta know the state. I think he’ll add a definite note of experience and common sense."
Brown did not endorse Filner in the primary. Instead he issued a statement in support, though not a formal endorsement, of state Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher.
