Last Chance To Request Mail-in Ballot

Aired 10/29/12 on KPBS News.

If you want to vote by mail, you must request your ballot by Tuesday, October 30th.

Tuesday, October 30th is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot, if you want to vote that way. More than half the voters in San Diego County cast their ballots in their mailboxes. So far this election, more than 250,000 voters have already sent their ballots in.

Each one of those ballots is opened and scrutinized by one of about 60 San Diego County Registrar of Voters employees for mistakes or omissions.

Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler said one of the most common mistake her office sees is missing signatures.

"When people send in their mail ballots, they need to make sure that envelope is signed", she said.

"If we see an envelope that's not signed, we immediately send that back to the voter".

Seiler said problem ballots are passed along to someone on the quality assurance team, whose job is to determine voter intent.

For example, she said "If a voter has made a very faint mark and we're concerned that it might not be read through these scanning machines, then we will actually put a little mark over that to make sure that vote is correctly tabulated."

Seiler said the staff at the County Registrar of Voters works hard to make sure each vote counts. You can help by signing your envelope, filling in the bubbles completely, and getting your ballot in by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6th.

Holy cow is DeMaio getting desperate.

Last night his ads kept playing and re-playing, did he spend more of his own fortune trying to buy the election?

And the content of his ads?

My jaw dropped when I saw two of them.

In one, he hired the disgruntled airline worker who Filner yelled at in the airport in Dallas who lost his luggage.

She is almost in tears talking about how being yelled at 5 years ago at the airport has destroyed her life.

I'm not saying what Filner did was right, not at all, but come on - people get upset in the airport a lot, especially at the lost luggage counter, and this woman claims she is still traumatized by the even half a decade later?!

I'd love to know how much the DeMaio campaign and his bennefactors paid-off this woman for her moving dramatic acting in this desperate ad.

Then, when I was still contemplating the desperation of that ad, another one came on for Mr. DeMaio, and in this one he had ......... I kid you not ............ a TEACHER and UNION MEMBER saying she supports him.

So now DeMaio is so pathetically desperate he is pandering to groups he has practically given the finger to his whole career.

The woman says in the ad she is a "union member".

Come on DeMaio, you have built a career out of being anti-union, and now you think one paid actor claiming to be in a union is going to get your support?

This would be like Scott Walker of WI running ads trying to solicit support from unions.

It's laughable.

And it shows that in these final days Mr. DeMaio doesn't care what principles he compromises, who he pays off, or how below the belt he needs to go - - he will reach into the darkest corners imaginable to pander his way into trying to win.
