Shiver me timbers! The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Maritime Raid Force, based at Camp Pendleton, practiced their anti-piracy moves this week aboard the SS Cape Inscription at the port of Long Beach.
Some Marines landed on the deck of the SS Cape Inscription from helicopters hovering above the ship, according to the Associated Press, while others worked as snipers, monitoring their fellow Marines as they maneuvered their way through the maze of hallways inside the ship - as if it were a vessel that had just been hijacked by pirates.
The military exercise was real enough, according to Staff Sgt. Ben Cohen - with a few exceptions...
[A] real operation would likely involve surveillance drones, translators, night vision goggles and many more support vessels.
The Associated Press put together a video report on the training, which I've posted up top.
