Aired 4/8/13 on KPBS Midday Edition.

GUEST

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner

Transcript

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner was a guest on KPBS Midday Edition. He also joined KPBS' Erik Anderson for Evening Edition.

We asked him about his upcoming budget and his ongoing battles.

The San Diego City Council is expected to approve the mayor's revised tourism marketing deal — but there's no reason to think the fireworks are over at City Hall.

Why doesn't San Diego evaluate capital improvement projects on the basis of return on investment, where the investment is the cost to the city and the return is the expected increase in tax revenue to the city? It seems that this would be the most effective and responsible way to prioritize needed projects and balance the budget.

What gives Mayor Bob Filner the courage to face the citizens and to use the public media to communicate so openly and transparently? None of his republican predecessors did this, why so committed to public education?

He must be extremely confident in his leadership ability and willing to risk being asked loaded questions by political opponents. Does that increase his stress level?

His opponents would say that he is 'arrogant' and 'confrontational', that he 'takes unnecessary risks', but to his supporters he's just walking the talk as a Democratic Representative of the people.

He even has a web site with contact info: http://www.bobfilnerformayor.com/

Philo,

You are so indoctrinated in Democratic Party propaganda that you can't see how hilariously sanctimonious your post is.

Just like with Obama, Democrats view their politicians as superior beings (which itself is undemocratic), yet they always turn out to be just as corrupt as Republicans. By the time you realize it, the next Democratic savior has come along with a silver tongue and sparkly wink and you've forgotten all about the last one.

When are you going to realize we have a single two-headed party?

Filner is not on your side, Philo.
