City Employee Levels New Allegations Against Filner

Above: Joined by attorney Gloria Allred, Peggy Shannon, 67, accuses Mayor Bob Filner of unwanted sexual advances at a press conference, Aug. 15, 2013.

Another woman came forward Thursday in the Bob Filner sexual harassment scandal.

Aired 8/16/13 on KPBS News.

Another woman comes forward: Peggy Shannon, 67, said the mayor kissed her, made lewd comments and repeatedly asked for dates.

In a tearful, frank statement, Peggy Shannon, 67, said Bob Filner kissed her, repeatedly grabbed her hands, made lewd, suggestive comments and asked her for a date again and again after she'd already said no.

Shannon works part-time at the senior-information desk at City Hall. Her attorney, Gloria Allred, said Shannon has filed a complaint with the city regarding the mayor's behavior and that it is under investigation.

Shannon is not suing the mayor or the city at this time, Allred said. She has, however, asked for a letter of apology from Filner and she requests that he resign. No apology has been forthcoming, the attorney noted.

Shannon said that on the day earlier this year when the mayor suddenly kissed her "on the lips," she went home and cried, anxious and fearful that she might lose her job if she reported the incident.

Allred said that subsequently, Filner told Shannon during one of many uncomfortable visits to her desk in the City Hall lobby that he, "could go eight hours straight." The lewd intent in the comment was clear, the attorney added.

The attorney played off that reference in reiterating her insistence that Filner resign:

"Mr. Mayor, you said you could go eight hours; we don't care how long you can go, we just want you to go!"

Shannon said she works part-time at the Senior Citizens Service Desk in City Hall to help supplement the payments she gets from Social Security. Allred told reporters that Shannon will continue to work at City Hall.

Special Feature Read the Backstory

All of the accusations, statements and apologies from the key players in the developing story about allegations of sexual harassment in Mayor Bob Filner's office and calls from former mayoral supporters for his resignation.

Allred is also representing three other women: Irene McCormack Jackson filed a suit last month against the mayor and the city of San Diego citing specific examples of lewd behavior by the mayor.

The other two are Michelle Tyler, a licensed nurse, and Katherine Ragazzino, a U.S. Marine.

Tyler claims Mayor Filner made unwanted sexual advances toward her while she was trying to get help for Ragazzino, who she said was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and spent 18 months in the hospital for injuries she sustained while in Iraq.

At least a dozen other women have come forward with similar allegations of sexual misconduct by the mayor.

King Solomon in the Bible had many, many wives and the Song of Songs may suggest why.
"The greater the man, the greater his evil inclination" [In the Talmud, the term "evil inclination" (yetzer hara) is often used to mean the libido]. King Solomon didn't live as long as Methuselah.
Strom Thurmond was the first man to reach his 100th birthday while in the U.S. Senate. Strom married his first wife, Jean, on Nov. 7, 1947, after she graduated college. Thurmond then hired her as his personal secretary. Thurmond was a judge in the pageant in which she had won the Miss South Carolina of 1947 Crown. There was no issue from this marriage.
Jean having died of natural causes, Strom Thurmond married his second wife, Nancy, another Miss South Carolina (of 1965), on December 22, 1968. He was 66 years old and she was 22. She had been working in his Senate office off and on for almost a year. At age 68, Thurmond fathered what was believed to be his first child. He had three other children with Nancy. Sixth months after the death of Thurmond, Essie Mae Washington-Williams grudgingly revealed that she was his daughter. She's a retired L.A. Unified teacher, and she identifies as African American. She was born on October 12, 1925, to a girl who had reached 16 years of age, and who was working for the Thurmond family when Strom, then 23, impregnated her. She did not reveal she was Strom's daughter during his lifetime because it "wasn't to the advantage of either one of us." After Essie Mae came forward, the Thurmond family publicly acknowledged her. And she then joined the DAR & the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
So far, cartoonist Steve Breen hasn't vowed -- in his continuing U-T biopics -- to not show Bob Filner in bed with a prostitute. J. Edgar Hoover was convinced that Martin Luther King Jr. had a super-sized libido. I attended the rally. And I couldn't and can't see why almost a quarter-million Filner votes should be overthrown in a putsch. Both Bob and Martin did time: Mississippi State Pen and Birmingham Jail, respectively. But neither stint was for violating employed women under their control.

Th Perv Mayor should be charged with elder abuse. The DA has to charge him by law. They do not need the accuser to bring charges. Let the fun begin.

There is something many of Filner's accusers seem to have in common: he often likes women in his own age group, and when he does like a woman, he may ask her for a date.

This isn't even news anymore.

We are jaded.

Unless the next one comes forward to say she actually accepted his advances and is carrying his love child, I just don't know if I can stay awake. :)

Another disgusting attack on a city employee by Filner.

Absolutely horrific, not just for the victims, but all city employees.

He says he could "go eight hours straight"? I bet that's the exact same thing his cellmate in prison will say.

I am not jaded Peking. Until Filner steps down it is necessary for the media to continue the drumbeat churning out the truth until he is gone. His Karma has clearly ran over his Dogma.

1) Filner needs to step down and realize he is now a nationwide embarrassment and a laughing stock more and more so the longer he hangs on. There comes a time where There is a fine line between stubborn arrogance and delusion::

2) Filner needs to be shipped off to Elba, not for two week Freudian analysis but for intensive 2 year Clockwork-orange style harassment mediation treatment sort of like this:

http://tinyurl.com/3o2nr48

3) The dwindling diehard Filner backers and Filner apologists need to wake up and realize that by defending Bob Filner at this stage, they are playing music to a sinking ship sort of like this:

Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Would be charged with creating "hostile workplace"
Don Bauder, August 15, 2013

Monday -- or perhaps a later date -- could be critical for Mayor Bob Filner, according to excellent inside sources. It appears that an intergovernmental palace coup is underway.

Today (Aug. 15), a great-grandmother, in an extremely bizarre appearance with attorney Gloria Allred, claimed that Filner harassed her. She felt depressed and anxious every time she went to work. Her photo is in today's Union-Tribune.

It appears her complaint will be used as the basis of an injunction against Filner on the grounds that he creates a hostile workplace. He would be locked out, according to plans.

The various governmental agencies that have been planning to file charges against him would then present him with their deal: presumably, he could accept it or resign. If he did not accept the deal, he could probably be wiped out financially. Now, Monday could be D-Day (decision day) for him.

It also appears that the individual or individuals listening in on conversations in Chief of Staff Lee Burdick's office from the Westgate Hotel were from a governmental agency. The police apparently won't pursue an investigation -- supposedly because it would cost too much.

This is a likely scenario, and we will watch it if plays out. If there is this close intergovernmental cooperation, it is essential that details be revealed.

Hi Peking.

I 'do' understand sarcasm and i am not easily offended. That said 'sarcasm' is difficult both to convey and to interpret via internet commucations. The original 1995 'Netiquette RFC' noticed that from early days of internet and has always recommended to avoid it as do most all modern Netiquette guides i.e.:

http://www.networketiquette.net/college_avoid_sarcasm.html

Understood the gist of your post and laughed... it was just the 'all' of us are jaded bit could be broadly interpreted. Bob Filner lovechild... funny and and frightening all at the same time:

Bob needs to 'see alice' less if you know what i mean. Menos cialis y no más las ocho horas.
