3rd MAW Band Covers 'Thrift Shop'
The Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band, based at MCAS Miramar in San Diego, covered two Macklemore & Ryan Lewis songs at their recent Marine Corps Ball.
Video of the performance of "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us" is going viral on YouTube, with more than 184,000 views so far.
The 3rd MAW Band gave some background about their mini-concert:
So this is our 3rd year doing these knock-down/drag-out Birthday Ball concerts; first it was "Bohemian Rhapsody" then it was "Gangnam Style" and "Thunderstruck", and now it's "Thrift Shop" (which we rewrote the lyrics to and called "Cash Sales") and "Can't Hold Us."
If you've ever been in the military I'm sure you know what Cash Sales is so please listen to the lyrics, they're pretty clever. Staff Sgt. Justin Lienemann did an awesome job rewriting the lyrics and Staff Sgt. Josh Lively did a great job putting the whole thing together. Here's to 238 years of the Marine Corps doing things like no one else. Semper Fidelis!
