Ex-Navy SEAL Jesse Ventura Wants To Sue Chris Kyle’s Widow

Taya and Chris Kyle

Ex-Navy SEAL Jesse Ventura filed a defamation lawsuit in 2012 against "American Sniper" Chris Kyle over an alleged bar fight in Coronado seven years ago. Today Ventura's attorneys asked a federal judge to make Kyle's widow Taya Kyle the new defendant in the case.

Ventura claims Chris Kyle defamed him in his memoir American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

In a section of his book called “Punching Out Scruff Face,” Kyle describes a confrontation with a “celebrity” at a 2006 wake for a Navy SEAL. He claimed “Scruff Face” made disparaging remarks about the war, the United States and President George W. Bush, provoking Kyle to punch him in the face.

Kyle later identified "Scruff Face" as Ventura.

As Home Post previously reported, Kyle, 38, was shot to death at a Texas shooting range last February.

The Associated Press reports Ventura's attorney, David Bradley Olsen, told a federal judge today in Minneapolis that Taya Kyle should take her dead husband's place as defendant:

[B]ecause Ventura has a fundamental right to protect and repair his reputation. Olsen also argued Kyle’s estate will continue to profit from book sales and a recent movie deal.

However, in previous court documents, Taya Kyle's attorney wrote:

“Continuing this action will serve no useful purpose, and likely will promote public perception of Jesse Ventura as someone who has little or no regard for the feelings and welfare of surviving family members of deceased war heroes."

Ventura, this move demonstrates a total lack of class on your part. If you got punched out in a bar, man up and go on with your life. If you didn't, so what, I would have never known about this incident if you hadn't filed suit against the widow of an American hero. Did you sue everyone who "defamed" you when you were the liberal governor of MN? How about when you ran around in those pink tights and sunglasses? Sue much then?

Sounds like Jesse has his panties in a bunch. I did not know Chris Kyle, but I wish I had. He sounds like a great American hero. His wife deserves better. I hope I get on that jury. LOL

Oh, so you guys think it is ok to go around physically assaulting people who say things you don't like or to make money by defaming people?

I totally agree with you popo, except for saying he was a "liberal" he was far from that. But you're right this shows a real lack of class!

Jesse Ventura was never a SEAL .. He was UDT .. There was a time when there was a differentiation in the Naval Special Warfare community .. Not taking away from anything he accomplished and went through to obtain his ratings, he was not a SEAL .. Plain and simple .. Do some research before you author a article ..

Apparently Jesse has been adding something to the Alex Jones kool aid he's been drinking. Show some class Jesse and let this go. I really do not think anyone is overly interested if you did or did not get your chops busted in a bar fight. Real life is considerably different from the staged fights you had in the ring. Pull your big boy pants up and let it go.

Come on Jesse, suing the widow of anyone over a barroom fight is in bad taste.

I'm not defending Ventura here, but those of you saying he wasn't a "SEAL" that he was "UDT" are misinformed. When Ventura was in UDT, there wasn't Navy SEALS. UDT was the precursor to the SEALS and all UDT veterans were given SEAL status by the Navy when the elite force was created. So technically he was a SEAL by THEIR OWN STANDARDS.

Jesse was 11 years old when the first Navy SEAL teams were created. He did some tough training or sure, but he was not a SEAL team member.

Anyone who would go after the widow of an American hero would likely lie about not getting punched out. How low can this man sink? I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Pathetic.

Anyone who had such a de-humanizing view of Arabs and Muslims might lie about punching someone out. Although we're grateful for his service, Chris Kyle wrote some harsh things about the people he was supposedly "liberating" in his book. Jesse Ventura has a right to clear the record because of his celebrity status because Mr Kyle used the story only because of Ventura's celebrity status.
