Pentagon To Restore Military Tuition Assistance Programs…Soon
Thursday, March 28, 2013
President Obama signed the continuing resolution that funds the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. Part of that resolution restored Tuition Assistance programs for the Marine Corps, the Army, and the Air Force. All three services halted enrollment in their programs because of budget issues.
Pentagon spokesman George Little told reporters yesterday:
“We will comply with the recently enacted legislation to provide tuition assistance to all service members across all the services...
“We intend to resume the program the way it was before suspension."
Stars and Stripes reports Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps reps plan to decide on how to proceed with their Tuition Assistance programs in the coming days. Air Force spokeswoman Maj. Cristin Marposon told the military newspaper:
“What we know definitively is that right now, it’s suspended. It’s being worked aggressively, and as soon as we have the way ahead, it will be announced.”
Army and Marine Corps officials also told Stars and Stripes all new enrollments in their respective programs are still on hold.
