Just a day after a controversial reform to the state's Three Strikes Law cleared a key committee, Governor Schwarzenegger says he does not support changes to the law. While addressing the Alliance of California Law Enforcement Wednesday, the Governor told attendees he was committed to protecting the measure.
Schwarzenegger: Together we also fought hard to save California's three strikes law, by working and defeating proposition 66, and this year we will stand together again and fight to make sure we will protect the three strikes law from any further attacks.
Under the new reform measure, authored by Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, only the most serious, violent third strike offenses would call for a sentence of 25 years to life. Currently a wide variety of offenses - from drug possession to murder - qualify for the long sentence.
