Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has named Linda Adams to be the head of the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has named Linda Adams to be the head of the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Adams is a Democrat who has worked for former Governor Gray Davis and was a long-time legislative staffer. She is considered to have strong relationships with both environmental and business interests.

Sierra Club spokesman Bill Magavern says Adams helped to pass a state law that lowered car emissions. He says that's important, because there's been a lack of any leadership from Washington DC when it comes to reducing the pollution that causes global warming.

Magavern: "And so California as the biggest state that has been at the forefront on air and atmosphere issues needs to take the lead, and I do think that Linda Adams understands that that is a bipartisan issue in California and particularly at the Environmental Protection Agency."

Adams replaces Alan Lloyd. He retired earlier this year.
