In less than two weeks, voters in Carlsbad, Vista, and Oceanside will be asked to weigh-in on a major overhaul of Tri-City Medical Center. Proposition F is a $596-million bond measure that will require a two-thirds majority vote to pass. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
Prop F would fund a massive renovation and expansion of North County's Tri-City Medical Center. Some of the hospital's core buildings would be demolished and replaced. In addition, the emergency room would be overhauled and a separate urgent care center would be built.
Tri-City CEO Art Gonzalez says patients would see the difference.
Gonzalez: The urgent care center will take a large burden off of our emergency department, which means that people who are really sick get seen quicker, and people with more minor illnesses also get their attention and needs met as well.
Prop F would be funded through higher property taxes. The average homeowner in the Tri-City area would pay an additional $64 a year.
Opponents say the measure is too costly.
