San Diego Police say more people are getting into car wrecks because drivers are running red lights. Officials say there were more than 700 collisions at traffic lights in San Diego last year. More than 100 resulted in at least one death. San Diego Police Officer Joel Bryden says getting a ticket could be a red light runner's smallest worry:
Bryden: The fine is a minimum of $271, that does not include court cost or any other cost that a judge in a court may want to put on someone. The real significance would be the loss of life and or debilitating injury.
Officials say nationally someone dies every 21-minutes as a result of a car running a red light. A third of those killed are involved in a crash where one driver is younger than 25.
