A large government study says baby boomers that are a little overweight run a greater risk of dying early. The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine involved more than a half million people.
The research is one of the first to take into account factors like smoking and chronic illness. The risk was especially high for Hispanics, Asians and American Indians. The study says being underweight also increases risk.
It contradicts research by the federal Centers for Disease Control last year that suggested being a little plump isn't so bad.
