Today the San Diego City Council will consider spending another $2 million on a long-delayed city audit. It’s the ninth time KPMG has sought more money from the city to complete its 2003 fiscal report. If the money is approved, the firm will collect more than $6 million for its work. The council is also considering spending another million dollars with a second accounting firm for audits in 2004 and 2005. Officials say securing the audits are a top priority so San Diego can borrow money on the bond market to pay for overdue sewer upgrades and other projects.
