Forestry Board Urges San Diego to Plant More Trees

Tom Fudge: We take trees for granted. But we shouldn't, and we probably should be a little more appreciative of what they do for us. Trees provide shade. They consume the carbon dioxide we create by burning gas and oil. In fact, urban planners say they even tend to slow traffic. But if having a lot of trees is a good thing, San Diego is not doing so well. Vicki Estrada is chair of San Diego Community Forest Advisory Board. She says San Diego's tree canopy covers only 19 percent of the city. And no, that's not very much.
