Absentee Ballots May Decide Tight Vote in Solana Beach

We should know by this time tomorrow the outcome of a measure to limit the size of homes in some neighborhoods of Solana Beach. KPBS reporter Ed Joyce has details.

The proposition is passing by just 19 votes. About 300 votes remain to be counted. The ordinance seeks to restrict home sizes in proportion to their lot sizes in six neighborhoods west of I-5. Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner says she's not surprised at the tight vote.

Heebner : I think one of the reasons it was so very close that was such a huge influx of money from outside sources that tried to confuse the issue, and I think when people are confused they very generally vote no on something.

The San Diego County Registrar's office expects to count the final 300 absentee or provisional ballots this evening. The final vote tally is expected to be certified by the registrar next Monday. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
