Aspergers Syndrome on the Rise
Maureen Cavanaugh (Guest Host): In the past, people with this disorder may have been thought of as eccentric. Some have theorized that several famous artists and geniuses may have been afflicted by it. We're talking about Asperger's syndrome, a specific, high-functioning form of autism that is characterized by a wide variety of behaviors, including obsession with complex subjects and social awkwardness. My guests are Chantal Sicile-Kira, an autism expert, author and national speaker on Asperger's syndrome. And Eileen Jolly, whose son Evan has Asperger's syndrome and is in the San Diego school system.
