S.D. Unemployment Up, But Better Than Elsewhere
San Diego's unemployment rate jumped nearly half a percent last month. However, California Labor Department officials say the increase to 4.6 percent was mostly because of seasonal pressures. Even though the jobless rate was up, Labor analyst Barbara Ruehl says there was good news in the numbers.
Ruehl: Construction payrolls increased by 900 jobs, so this was the largest month over gain this year so far.
San Diego's unemployment rate is still well below California's jobless rate of 5.2 percent. The jobless rate measures the number of people actively looking for work.
