Maureen Cavanaugh (Guest Host): San Diego's Old Town was one of California's first communities and it remains the historic center of our county. Many San Diegans remember the long tenure of the commercial plaza called Bazaar del Mundo in the heart of Old Town. Two years ago, the Bazaar was replaced with the new Plaza del Pasado under new management.
The old Bazaar del Mundo under the guidance of owner Diane Powers had successfully created a blend of popular history and entertainment in Old Town. The new owners, Delaware North , are working with the State Department of Parks to create a more historically accurate picture of Old California in Old Town. And they've been conducting a $12 million renovation of the plaza.
Guests:
- Donna Renner, concession specialist for California State Parks' San Diego Coast District, which operates Old Town State Historic Park.
-
Diane Powers,
owner and operator of Bazaar del Mundo shops and Casa Guadalajara Mexican restaurant in Old Town.
