Officials Issue Forest Fire Warning This Weekend
State fire officials are issuing a warning for people headed to the great outdoors this holiday weekend. They say high temperatures, dry conditions and crowds increase the chance of forest fires.
Daniel Berlant, with the state fire agency, Cal-Fire , says campfires may not be allowed in some areas, and he says use extreme caution if you do have one.
Berlant : If you are allowed to have a campfire, make sure that it's put out completely. We see a lot of our larger fires at this time of year started by illegal campfires. So it's so important that you make sure that in the area where you are at that there's no fire restrictions.
Berlant says fires are also often started by people outside doing yard work. He says avoid mowing your lawn during the hottest hours of the day. Berlant adds that potential thunderstorms in the forecast over the next couple of weeks pose another wildfire threat.
