Lawmakers to Debate Iraq War Spending This Week

San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter is the Grand Marshall of today's Veterans Day Parade downtown. This week lawmakers will return to Washington to debate the future of the Iraq War. Todd Zwillich has this report from Washington.

Hunter served in the 175th Airborne in Vietnam. His son is wrapping up a third tour as a Marine in Afghanistan.

Duncan Hunter: All those freedoms that we have are preserved by veterans, by people that wear the uniform of the United States.

The House stands in recess today. When members return they're expected to begin debate on a $50 billion spending bill for the Iraq War. Hunter is the senior Republican on the Armed Services Committee and is likely to figure heavily in the debate.  Democrats plan to approve the money with what they call strings attached: strings…in the form of a timeline for withdrawing troops from the war. So far Senate Republicans have succeeded in repelling all attempts to set deadlines for the war.
