Yesterday, the
California Assembly
passed legislation aimed at providing medical insurance for all Californians. The assembly’s action was the first legislative move to put a system proposed earlier this year by Republican
Governor Schwarzenegger
in place. Despite the governor's support of the plan, yesterday's vote followed party lines with Democrats supporting it and Republicans opposed. Before the plan becomes law, it's going to have to go before voters who will need to approve some tax increases. Supporters of the bill hope that they'll qualify for the November ballot.
