As high winds and heavy rain pound parts of California, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi is warning residents to be careful - and to stay home if possible.
Whiteout conditions are expected in the Sierra Nevada, and officials are worried about flash flood and mudslides in the areas of southern California affected by last year's fires. Garamendi says residents there need to be extra cautious:
Garamendi: In 2003, we had 13 deaths in the San Bernardino Mountains, right outside the city of San Bernardino, from a major flash flood mud flow as a direct result of the fires in the San Bernardino Mountains. We don't want that to happen again.
Governor Schwarzenegger is getting briefings from the Office of Emergency Services. Garamendi says he'll also be getting updates.
