Four Indian gambling measures that would clear the way for even larger casinos and dramatically expand the state's overall gambling industry are leading in early returns.
With 31 percent of precincts reporting, each of the four measures had about 55.5 percent of the vote, compared to about 44.5 percent against.
The deals would boost the number of slot machines in California by almost 30 percent. In return for the expansion, the four tribes would share a larger portion of their winnings with the cash-strapped state.
The opposition says the deals are unfair to low-paid workers, poor tribes and taxpayers.
