Tom Fudge: Saturday, a few miles up the freeway in Los Angeles, several humanitarian groups will hold a "Walk for Water." The walk is also taking place in Seattle and New York. One of the groups behind the event is based here in San Diego.
The group is called Project Concern International , whose stated mission is to "prevent disease, improve community health, and promote sustainable development." One of the keys to doing all that in poor countries is making sure communities have adequate supplies of clean water. As it is, many of the world's poor have to walk miles every day to fetch water, and unsanitary water is the cause of many diseases.
Project Concern International, Ethos Water , CARE , and other non-governmental organizations will host the "Walk for Water" event on Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York. The public can register for local events, join the virtual "Walk for Water," or make a donation at http://www.worldwaterday.net.
