San Diego Voters Say Party Affiliation Changed by DMV

Some San Diego and Los Angeles voters are complaining their party affiliations were changed when they notified the Department of Motor Vehicles that they had moved.

Some San Diego and Los Angeles voters are complaining their party affiliations were changed when they notified the Department of Motor Vehicles that they had moved.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen says she's investigating the complaints, mostly from Republicans. The GOP investigated 50 complaints and found no wrongdoing, but Bowen says she wants to make sure.

The secretary of state is examining how the DMV collects and distributes change-of-address information.

Her spokeswoman Nicole Winger says "Bowen wouldn't want even one voter to be disenfranchised."

The change-of-address problem surfaced during the Feb. 5 primary when some registered Republicans were denied the party's ballot.
