As state lawmakers head into budget season, Republicans are pushing a few ideas they say will streamline government processes.
They include an increased focus on public private partnerships and allowing school districts to hire private companies to do janitorial work.
California Assembly G-O-P Leader Mike Villines admits the ideas have been tried before and rejected. But, he says the looming multi billion dollar deficit may prompt a new look at them:
Villines: I think there will be some receptivity on some of these maybe not all of them but the truth is everybody knows we all have to come together we have to solve a huge crisis. These are ways to do it that don't impact people and stretch the dollar better.
Democrats have been critical of the proposals, saying it's an attempt to put items unrelated to the budget into the budget process.
Governor Schwarzenegger will release his revised spending plan next week. It will include a new estimate of the size of the state's budget deficit.
Schwarzenegger has pegged it as high as 20 billion dollars while other lawmakers put it at 15 billion.
