Many people in North San Diego County said the presidential race wasn't the biggest reason they went to the polls yesterday. It was Prop 8 , the measure to ban same sex marriage. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
People in North County contributed more than one million dollars to the Yes on 8 campaign. Signs supporting the measure were posted throughout the region. Many local residents stood on street corners to promote Prop 8 in the weeks prior to the election.
Valley Center resident Linda Westler-Dantino voted Yes on 8.
Linda Westler-Dantino : Gays are wonderful people, I have nothing against them. I think they, you know, but I think marriage should be between a man and a woman. And especially because of children, you know, the environment that they should grow up in. So, you know, I'm just real passionate about that.
Statewide, spending on Prop 8 topped $73 million. Opponents raised slightly more than supporters.
