If you've been reading Culture Lust for a while, then you know I've had quite the love affair with the Salton Sea and Imperial County. Imagine my joy when I discovered this little documentary about the sordid history of the Salton Sea and its strangely wonderful hodge-podge of inhabitants. It's called Plagues and Pleasures of the Salton Sea and not only did the directors get great footage and interviews, they got John Waters to narrate and Friends of Dean Martinez to score the music. It's a big ole' package of quirk tied with a salty, fishy bow on top! You can see the film tonight at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park at 7pm. Yours truely will be interviewing director Chris Metzger after the screening so stick around for some behind-the-scenes stories. See you there!
