Tom Fudge: Next year is a new year for the city of San Diego, but many of the old problems remain. The city is still short of money. In fact, the recession has made budget problems worse. True, it's tough all over. But San Diego recently emerged from a long battle to put it's employee pension fund on a more stable footing and to get back in the bond market. So, the recent fall in tax revenues has got to be a little bit discouraging.
The job of leading the city in a time of crisis has fallen, and still falls, to Mayor Jerry Sanders. Sanders was challenged this election year by another Republican named Steve Francis. But the incumbent mayor got more than half of the vote in the June Primary, and avoided a runoff election in November. He was sworn in for his second term on Monday. And now Jerry Sanders joins me in studio to answer your questions and to talk about the state of the city.
