San Diego is stepping up its efforts to comply with the American with Disabilities Act. Mayor Jerry Sanders says the city’s done a lot, but has more to do to meet federal standards. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders plans to allot 10 million dollars in his upcoming budget for improvements to bring the city more in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The city has already spent 25 million dollars on similar projects, including installing 835 curb ramps, and adding audible instructions at 12 crosswalks. But Sanders says there’s more to be done.
Sanders: Make no mistake about it; the city still has a ways to go toward addressing our ADA obligations. Helping the city stay on track is part of the responsibility of the new committee on disability.
Sanders says more data is being gathered about the list of deferred and pending accessibility projects San Diego needs to complete.
