Most California Construction Workers Lack Health Insurance

Only about one-third of construction workers in California have health insurance provided by their employers, according to a study released today by the San Diego-based Center on Policy Initiatives.

Only about one-third of construction workers in California have health insurance provided by their employers, according to a study released today by the San Diego-based Center on Policy Initiatives.

The study, "Construction: Working Without a Healthcare Net," found  that construction workers are more likely than workers in any other industry  statewide to be chronically uninsured.

According to CPI, only 35 percent of construction workers in the state  get health insurance coverage from their employers, compared to about 50  percent of employees in other industry sectors.

The construction industry accounts for 15 percent of the state's  chronically uninsured workers, according to CPI.
