Hundreds of San Diego State Students Protest Cuts
Fuming San Diego State University students railed against deep budget cuts in a protest that drew hundreds to the campus. The university is grappling with a $35 million reduction.
San Diego State Senior Vicky Holmes is one of scores of students who videotaped a message of protest to Governor Schwarzenegger. She had planned to graduate in December. She can't because one of the courses she needed was dropped. The other is over-enrolled. She says the state's budget mess has thrown her career and finances into disarray.
"I was ready to start my master's program," she said. "I was ready to get in my field but now I'm still stuck in retail because you can't really get a job when you don't have that degree. It's just very frustrating."
San Diego State President Stephen Weber told the crowd the "human carnage" from the budget cuts will be felt for generations.
