Judge DeAnn Salcido had asked the 4th District Court of Appeal to order her boss Judge Peter Deddeh to stop telling her how to consider and sentence domestic violence offenders. Salcido alleged that Deddeh and other judges are not properly applying all probation conditions under state law and placing public safety at risk. But the appeals court said Salcido had no standing to file the complaint. The justices wrote, the court's role is to decide cases. If a party is aggrieved by a ruling, he is provided with an avenue to appeal. There is no process in place, the justices say, for one lower court judge to disagree with another and ask the court of appeal to set the superior court straight. The justices say Salcido could bring her concerns to the superior court's presiding judge.
