North County Transit Receives Federal Grant For Added Security On Coaster

The North County Transit District announced today it has received a $1.53 million grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for security systems on the Coaster.

The grant will be used to bolster security systems that are already in place for the commuter rail line and to add new technology, according to Angela Miller, NCTD's chief technology and sustainability officer.

Among the technology funded by the grant will be a video analytics surveillance system that can detect things out of the normal, such as an unattended backpack on a train platform, according to the NCTD.
