A Musical Drama About Life Inside California Prisons

We're sorry. This audio clip is no longer available.

Maureen Cavanaugh: When you break the law, after you're tried and convicted, you're sent to prison. And as far as most of society is concerned, that's the end of the story. But for the people who are sent to prison, it's just the beginning. They have to adapt to a different world: learn the rules and survive the dangers inside prison. And then, after they've served their time, they wear the label of ex-con out in society.

An original musical, set in a California prison is about to premiere here in San Diego. It addresses the harsh realities of prison life and how people manage to survive. Its cast is full of those survivors. All of the 15 actors in the play "Off The Hook" have been incarcerated.
