Sometimes reporters get inspired after they write a story. Last month I wrote about people who want to plant trees to give San Diego a more robust urban forest. I hooked up with a non-profit group called the Urban Corps, which does just that.
As it turned out, I got a copy of their standard request form, filled it out and asked that they plant some trees on the berm in front of my house. Today they came by and planted three Crape Myrtles. They had already planted a number of them on my block for other homeowners.
My contribution to the project will be to water the trees for the next two or three years, until they get established. So hopefully people will enjoy a little more shade and beauty on my block in the years to come.
