2 Contractors Guilty Of Bribery At Navy Base

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Two defense contractors have been convicted of bribing officials at a San Diego Navy base in exchange for millions in business.

Federal prosecutors say 46-year-old Robert Ehnow, 52-year-old Joanne Loehr and Loehr's corporation Centerline Industrial Inc. were found guilty by a jury Monday of bribery and conspiracy. The jury acquitted all three of additional bribery counts.

Prosecutors said they gave officials at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado more than $1 million in cash and gifts, including flat screen TVs, receiving $4 million in defense business in return.

Authorities said the contractors submitted phony bills to the Defense Department that covered the cost of the bribes.

Seven other people, including four Navy officials from North Island, had previously pleaded guilty in related cases.
