Maribel Ramos had served in the Army for eight years and was just weeks away from earning her degree at Cal State Fullerton when she went missing May 2 in Orange, California. Her body was discovered late last week, and now her roommate has been arrested for her murder.

CSU Fullerton campus newspaper The Daily Titan reports Ramos's body was found in Orange County's Modjeska Canyon last Thursday. Orange police Lt. Dave Hill told The Daily Titan that Ramos's roommate, 54-year-old Kwang Chol Joy, has been arrested for her murder.

CSU Fullerton president Mildred García released a statement upon hearing of Ramos's death, which read in part:

"Maribel was a beloved student and military veteran, who was actively engaged here on our campus and in the community. She was a wonderful role model for our students, faculty and staff. And we honor her for her past service to our country as an airborne paratrooper in the Army and her commitment to her education."

Ramos, 36, had been deployed twice to Iraq, and was just weeks away from earning her degree in Criminal Justice. KNBC-TV reports CSU Fullerton will award Ramos her degree posthumously.
