The death of Master Sgt. David L. Poirier, 52, on Feb. 28 from a "non-combat related incident" is currently under investigation, according to the Department of Defense.

Poirier was assigned to the 157th Operations Support Squadron, Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire.

The Pentagon did not disclose where Poirier's death took place. However, Poirier's Facebook page indicates he had arrived at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar the day prior to his death.

Until recently, the DoD had kept secret from the public the exact location of Al Udeid Air Base, according to the Wall Street Journal. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed this in December 2013, when he visited troops on the base and allowed reporters to disclose its location.
