One Week Left To Register To Vote In Nov. 4 Election

San Diego County residents have a week left to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said Monday.

"If you've moved recently or changed your name, you'll need to fill out a new registration form," Vu said. "If you go online, the process is quick, easy and convenient."

If the applicant's signature is confirmed through Department of Motor Vehicles records, the application would be automatically sent to the registrar. If the signature is not confirmed, he or she would need to print the form, sign it and mail it to the registrar.

For voters without access to a computer, forms are available at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, post offices, city clerk offices, public libraries and Department of Motor Vehicles locations.

All forms must be postmarked or delivered to the Registrar of Voters no later than midnight Oct. 20.

Voters also can check their registration status at www.sdvote.com.

The registrar said the last day to apply for a mail ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Voters can find the application on the registrar's website or on the back of the sample ballot and voter information pamphlet sent to each registered voter.

Forms should be mailed to the registrar at 5600 Overland Ave., San Diego, 92123, or faxed to (858) 694-2955. Registered voters can get a mail ballot by calling (858) 565-5800.

The election ballot includes what could be a close congressional race between Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, and ex-Councilman Carl DeMaio, and a San Diego City Council race between Chris Cate, the vice president of the San Diego Taxpayers Association, and education consultant Carol Kim.

The 2024 primary election is March 5. Find in-depth reporting on each race to help you understand what's on your ballot.
