From the decadent excesses of prewar Berlin to a DreamWorks concert for the kids, we have got something for everyone in today's weekend preview. Joining me is needed given. Nina, welcome to the show. Starting out with the decadent excesses, the musical A return to San Diego this weekend. A lot of people might remember that this was station New York recently with Alan Cummings and Michele Williams. This is the show that is on a national tour. It is put on by roundabout theater in the stars Randy Harrison as the MC. Many people know Away from the 1972 movie. How do these two productions compare? The movie is very glitz and glam. The musical kind of makes it a point to show that the people living in Berlin were desperate for money. Instead of beautiful costumes, it looks like prop and underwear really. And there is a sweet love story that's not in the movie between the Jewish for vendor and the woman who lets the rooms. There were several differences from the movie but I think it improves on the movie. Over all the idea of the imminent rise of not to power in Germany. Let's hear a clip from one of the most famous songs in the movie. Nina, you saw this already. You saw the show coming to San Diego this weekend. What did you think? I love that. I think it's one of the best shows that I have seen this year. A story about Nazi and I haven't seen it done in that way and it's very moving and also fun. Definitely for an older audience so you can catch Away for one weekend only at the civic theater. There are a few music festivals around the County. The Carlsbad music festival focuses on experimental music. What exactly does that mean? One of the ask is said to paint with music. There is a lot of interesting stuff going on and you will hear a lot of electronic music used in various ways. There is a sitar there will be electronic and there is a group that does classical electronic plus performance arts. A lot of different stuff. Some shows are free and some part. Yes. Walk around the neighborhood and Ke$ha shows but there are some higher profile acts that are ticketed between $10 and $20. During this concert, during this festival a chance for people to get to know Carlsbad. It is a three-day event. It happens by the sea. There is a beer garden and you can get to know the local artists and is just a great way to explore the neighborhood and listen to the music that you probably wouldn't be listening to. The festival goes from Friday to Sunday throughout Carlsbad Village. Another music festival happening and Logan Heights. The and. I'll Avenue street festival. This is putdown by a neighborhood organization that celebrates the history of of barrio Logan. There are arts and crafts and food and music and it is a great time in the streets. It's relatively new, right-click Yes. It's in his third year. Last year it attracted about 6000 people. This year they have Poncho Sanchez who is a great Latin jazz musician and a wonderful Congo player. It is bringing some big ask. We have a clip from Poncho Sanchez just in case the members of the audience are not familiar with them. This is his shingling. [Music] The Imperial Avenue street festival happened Saturday and 28th Street and Imperial Avenue and Logan Heights. Finally summer pops notice besides summer nights is putting on a concert that celebrates DreamWorks animation. What will people here at this concert? This concert will have all of the best stuff from Shrek, and foo panda, how to train your Dragon. Anything that is a DreamWorks property will be performed by the Symphony. They are going to have the movies projected as the musicians play. Now this is kind of the last big arts event before school starts, right-click Yes. A lot of kids are going back to school on Monday and others are already in school. This is a nice way to do something for the summer with your family and say goodbye to the carefree days. Those carefree days are over. Why is it a good option? They are going to have some events and activities for kids starting at 6:00. It is going to be animation. They will be able to watch it and it is culture. It might be a late night for the first day of school, but there is no homework the first day of school. The last show will be next weekend. Tchaikovsky -- Tchaikovsky spectacular with the fireworks. DreamWorks animation in concert happens on Sunday at the Embarcadero. I have been speaking with Nina Geren. Nina, thank you. Thank you. Have a great weekend.

This weekend you'll find music in the streets, at the park and at the notorious Kit Kat Klub.
