Business leaders will gather Thursday in Chula Vista to discuss the possible economic boon that the legal marijuana industry could spark in South County.

The South County Economic Development Council is hosting the Cannabis Economic Impact Forum, where local leaders will hear from those in the recreational and medical cannabis industries about their successes and struggles.

Speakers will include those from a marijuana consulting firm, finance professionals and Kelley Bacon, the Chula Vista deputy city manager.
Topics are expected to include a broad overview of the pros and cons of welcoming cannabis into a community, a case study on the successes of Aurora, Colorado, potential job creation, new industries that are created as part of a legal marijuana industry, financial benefits and research and development opportunities in the medical field.
