SD Fringe Preview: ‘Real[ise]’

New Zealand circus company comes to San Diego on exchange program

Tangata Circus Company performs "Real[ise]" at San Diego International Fringe as part of a cultural exchange program between Wellington, New Zealand and San Diego.

Tangata Circus Company combines circus with other arts such as theater and physical comedy. The show features three people stuck in a daily routine but then an event jolts them out of their rut and sends them on an adventure. The shows begins slowly and simply but builds to some breathtaking physical feats. Expect clowning, great aerial, acrobatic and hula hoop skills plus audience participation.

"Real[ise]" has performances at Centro Cultural de la Raza on June 8 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., June 13 at 6 p.m., June 15 at 2:30 p.m. and June 16 at 1 p.m.

opening quote marksclosing quote marksI cover arts and culture, from Comic-Con to opera, from pop entertainment to fine art, from zombies to Shakespeare. I am interested in going behind the scenes to explore the creative process; seeing how pop culture reflects social issues; and providing a context for art and entertainment.
