The public is invited to participate in big regional issues at the annual summit.

Aired: October 24, 2019 | Transcript

This year's Politifest, a public affairs summit hosted by Voice of San Diego, will focus on housing and transportation. With so many pressing issues facing the region and nation, organizers hope people walk away from the summit more civically engaged.

"I always wanted there to be a day that was just about debates and celebrated debates. Conflict isn't a pejorative. It's not a bad thing inherently. We have to learn to live with conflict, debate, and argument in a way that advances all of the ideas and confront the problems that we have to face," said Scott Lewis, editor in chief of Voice of San Diego.

Lewis joined Midday Edition to talk about the importance of debate and civic engagement.

Politifest happens Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the University of San Diego. For tickets and more information click here.
