Most COVID-19 restrictions come to an end in San Diego County, an Oceanside city council member faces a recall effort after just a few months on the job and a new effort to track and boost racial representation in California's life sciences industry.

COVID-19 Restrictions End In San Diego

This week included a big step forward in California's response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the end of the tier system that was in place for more than a year. KPBS Health Reporter Matt Hoffman is covering the local reopening and some of the large events happening in San Diego this weekend including the U.S. Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines.

Oceanside City Council Recall Effort

The recall effort against Governor Gavin Newsom is just one of several attempts in recent months to remove elected officials from office. The latest is happening in Oceanside, where a city councilwoman is reacting to a challenge from opponents who are upset over recent council votes and question her residency. North County Reporter Tania Thorne joins us with an update on this under the radar political story.

Diversifying The Life Sciences Industry

California’s life sciences industry is trying to overcome large gaps when it comes to racial representation. A trade organization for hundreds of companies will launch a comprehensive tracking system to measure what sort of progress is made in the years to come. San Diego Union-Tribune biotech reporter Jonathan Wosen joins us to talk about this effort, and where things stand with the major companies in our area.
