Sempra is dealing with a legal challenge that threatens to shut down the San Diego-based company's facility near Ensenada.
A Mexican federal court issued an order late last week that could force Sempra to shut down the company's Liquefied Natural Gas terminal. The Ensenada facility has been operating since 2008, and the plant is capable of processing a billion cubic feet of fuel a day.
Kathleen Corbin Teora, spokeswoman for Sempra, said a Mexican citizen has repeatedly challenged the energy company's rights to the land near the terminal.
"This is a land dispute and should not have anything to do with the operation of the terminal or its permits and we're hoping that the Mexican government will look at this and see it for what it is," said Teora.
Corbin Teora said the Mexican court didn't contact Sempra directly and the plant continues to operate.
