The San Diego Padres will face the Houston Astros during the upcoming season's spring training.
Dubbed the "Mexico City Series," the games will be the first time Major League Baseball has been played in Mexico City since 2004.
The series, set for March 26-27, is part of the Padres and Major League Baseball's campaign to broaden the league's appeal in Mexico.
As part of that outreach, the Padres announced plans to upgrade the Boys and Girls Club sports complex in Tijuana.
The relationship with the Padres is strong, Tijuana's Mayor Dr. Jorge Astiazarán said at a press conference.
"I've always mentioned that the San Diego Padres is also Tijuana's team," Astiazarán said. "And for expanding what the Boys and Girls club does in Tijuana, is great news for us."
The Padres also announced a multi-year extension with media company Uniradio to continue broadcasting games south of the border.
