San Diego County's Investment Pool Grows To All-Time High $8.8 Billion

The county of San Diego's investment pool has reached an all-time high of $8.8 billion, making it the second-largest in the state, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced Friday.

The pool is a collection of assets from the county, all 42 school districts in the region, five community college districts, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, San Diego Association of Governments, cities, and other public agencies like fire and water districts. More than 100 agencies invest in the pool.

As of April 30 of last year, the value was $7.4 billion, according to the Treasurer's Office.

“San Diego County deserves nothing but the best and this proves that we are working hard to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is securely invested and is of the highest credit quality,” McAllister said. “The return on investment continues to be positive even in this prolonged low-interest-rate environment.”

The pool is actively managed by the Treasurer's Office and overseen by a 10-member oversight panel that's made up of county, school and special agency representatives and five public members.

Ben Dillingham, a retired former Marine who serves on several nonprofit boards, is the new chairman of the oversight committee, according to McAllister.
