A school district in San Diego County that's already mired in a corruption scandal is investigating whether cafeteria workers may have stolen $500,000 worth of goods.
U-T San Diego says two supervisors have resigned and six other employees are on unpaid leave while the Sweetwater Union High School District investigates.
Superintendent Ed Brand says there are indications that employees stole food and drinks from cafeterias, keeping the goods for themselves or selling them. A private investigator has been hired to examine the food-service department.
Sweetwater made news last week when criminal charges were filed against four current and former officials and a construction contractor.
Those officials, including the district's former superintendent, are accused of taking expensive perks from businesses seeking construction contracts.
